What are you eating today?

Some of the most interesting pieces of Luther's life come to us from a collection of stories that his students collected that they called Table Talk. In the collection, we find Luther talking about his views on theology, marriage, the pope and just about everything else in his life. Please take this chance to express your views about life, but please, try to keep the Luther-like vulgarity to a minimum.

I just had a stuffed pepper with a slab of heated cheese bread for breakfast.

I had an egg and two pieces of thick cut bacon mixed into some grits for breakfast, with a side of strawberries and a glass of milk. I ate that at 6:30, it's now 11am and I haven't had anything but a couple cups of decaf coffee and I'm just now getting hungry. I have to decide between leftover African Chicken and a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup.

Usually, breakfast is one piece of toast w/ peanut butter & jam or honey. this morning I woke up really hungry, and doubled that. plus 4 shots of decaf espresso and a bit of vanilla soy milk. ( I know, why bother?? but I do like the taste..)

I had a huge bowl of heated apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for lunch, and then a bowl of bean and kale soup for lunch.

ETA:

a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup.

I always *love* that for lunch, real comfort food.

I am now eating mashed potatoes with homemade pork gravy.

So, is that all at ONE meal?

Let's just say that today I am having what could be called a "progressive meal" of sorts. I have a really long board meeting at church tonight, so I won't be having dinner. After the meeting I expect I'll want to crack open a few Lutheran Beverages since I anticipate a lively discussion over some contentious and heated issues.

Since my wife is laid up with a broken wrist, I was on kitchen duty tonight. I gathered a few ingredients that were at hand and invented a new hot dish. Started with a couple pounds of hamburger from a parishioner who recently butchered a heifer. Browned it in olive oil with some chopped onion and a couple shakes of garlic powder. Very lean. No drippings at all. Then I cleaned up and cubed and boiled a pile of potatoes from last summer's garden. Knobbiest spuds I've ever seen. Mixed up a bit of gravy using Beef Soup Base and thickened it with flour and water. Took my big 12" square x 3" deep corning ware casserole and layered browned hamburger, potatoes and a can of cut green beans, then more hamburger and spuds. Poured the gravy over it. Topped it off with a handful of shredded cojack cheese and baked it for 20 minutes while the kids set the table. Served it with buttered toast. Kids liked it. My wife thought I'd used too much soup base, which made the sauce too salty. I'd normally agree with her, but for some reason, salty has been tasting really good to me lately.

I had dinner at Chevy's this evening, a carnitas burrito, rice, refried beans.

Yesterday we had a playoff party, and the menu was KFC and multiple desserts (blueberry pie, French silk pie, M&M cookies).

GB, sounds good to me too. Next time use less soup base.

I love Lutheran casseroles

claire- how long did you have to wait to eat? I've heard that the huge number of people in town has put a real strain on the restaurants (and roads, and cell services, and...)
