Advent 1A

Postby chemnitznsasse on Mon Nov 19, 2007 11:06 am

Tomorrow, it I my trun to present the Homiletic Study at our month Cirucit meeting. Since I will not be preaching Sunday (taking a few days vacation to go to the in-laws) I chose Advent 1. (Also, a few pastors in our circuit use the historic 1-year series, and since the Gospel reading for Advent 1 A is the same as for the 1-year series, it works for everyone.) Anyhow, here it is, submitted for your review, critique, and, if helpful, use. (The gibberish is the Greek. I used the BibleWorks Greek font. I don't know how ot get a Greek font here. (OL, any help here?))

LITURGICAL CONTEXT
The season of Advent begins the new church year, with its eyes focused on Jesus’ coming. We look forward to Christ coming in three ways: We remember His coming in history, at Christmas. We look for His return, His coming, at the end of time when He will come to take us to be with Himself forever We also celebrate His coming to us in the Means of Grace here in the present. Like Lent, Advent is a penitential season. It is a time of preparation and repentance. The words of John the Baptizer come through clearly, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.â€

I believe I've successfully posted Greek from E-Sword, but I've not yet figured out how to type in that font.

It's not quite finished yet. There's a few more placed I want to flesh out - and a little bit of editing and cutting left to do, but here is Sunday's proclamation for your review and critique.
