wedding sermon

Postby pstrmry on Wed Apr 11, 2007 6:10 pm

I have only a couple of basic wedding sermons. This is one of them. The scriptural reference here is from Galations 5, "the fruit of the Spirit..", which in all honesty, I merely adapted from the ubiquitous I Cor 13: love = patient, kind, etc....This week's couple simply chose the Galations text and I tweeked the sermon just a tad to suit. (and if you are wondering where Jesus is --the sermon doesn't stand alone! Jesus is all over the rest of the service by name: in the vows, the blessing of the rings, the prayers -- the message may seem generic, but Jesus permeates the worship... just so you know!)

[i]from Galatians 5: 22-23, 25-,26
: “..The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness & Self control. There is no law against such things…If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.â€

pstmry-

Thanks for posting one of your wedding sermons. I take it you want feed back so here is mine.

Add Jesus. Yes, He is throughout the service but many people don't fully understand what the invocation is and does. We pray to Jesus but who is he? Even the Muslims believe Jesus was a great prophet. No proclamation is given in these elements- at least to the people who never go to church on a regular basis.

It is really simple to add Christ to your message. In fact, my wedding service hinges on the very point you made. Marriage is not 50/50 it is a complete giving of yourself to the other person. You have that in your sermon and all you have to do is tie it in to the example of Jesus Christ who gave himself for us completely- 100%. Tell everyone that God knew the only way we could see salvation was for him to become man- Jesus Christ and give himself 100% for us on the cross through his death. You can add this crucial element and take just a few seconds to make it.
