Bored/Irritated Thread

Some of the most interesting pieces of Luther's life come to us from a collection of stories that his students collected that they called Table Talk. In the collection, we find Luther talking about his views on theology, marriage, the pope and just about everything else in his life. Please take this chance to express your views about life, but please, try to keep the Luther-like vulgarity to a minimum.

I'm feeding a family of 4 and I don't pay that much! And milk around here goes for about 3.70 at the moment, which is killing me. I'm thinking about doing what my mom did when I was a kid- cutting the milk with powdered to stretch it.

What gets me is over $4 a box for cereal. Our basic rule has been to never spend over $2 a box, but if we were to still keep that up we'd have breakfast at noon everyday.

I can usually find good coupons or deals (BOGOs, etc.) at my local store. I held to the $2 rule myself for a long time, but by increasing it to $2.50 I can usually get something. But we don't eat much cereal, for me it's pretty much a banana and a half peanut butter & nutella sandwich.

I'm getting upset with my stomach. I don't know what's going on but I feel really full at the same time as I feel really hungry and it's been just aching for the past few days. I think I'm going to try a fast just to clear things out and if that doesn't work then I'm calling my doctor. Which I hate doing because I hate going to the doctor. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

Maybe you have a tapeworm. Just joking. How horrific would that be? Although I used to kind of wish for some malady like that which would make me skinny without my having to anything.

Our store brand cereal is still pretty affordable. Unfortunately, I don't eat much of it. Once in awhile I'll get attached to the store version of Cheerios or bran cereal, but the attraction doesn't last long.

It's not tapeworm- I did think of that, couldn't decide if that would be a good thing (diet!) or a bad thing (gross!).
I think it's stress. I love my job but it's not paying well enough so I have to find another one and it's causing me a lot of stress.

Our neighbor boy has quite a conflict tonight. Our state allows homeschooled kids to join the government school sports teams if they pay a participation fee. Our neighbor's son has played on the local High School Basketball team this year, which has made it to the section finals and is playing tonight for the opportunity to advance to the State Tournament. He also has the lead part in our Home School Coop's Drama Class production of Robin Hood, which opens tonight. My two older daughters also have bit parts in the production, which has two performances scheduled, tonight and Sunday afternoon. The schedule was set back in January with the assumption that winter sports seasons would be wrapped up and if anyone was still in contention, the games were usually Saturday night. That went awry when they section playoffs were scheduled at the local State College gym which wasn't available on Saturday. Fortunately for my neighbor boy, the choice gets a bit easier since the Basketball team accepted his money and tolerated his presence but gave him very little game time whereas the Play has 35 classmates depending on him and 50 or a 100 tickets sold that depend on his presence to be worth anything. Still, it's a tough place for any kid to have to be.

1) It is Spring. Daylight is lengthening. The thermometer should be rising, for Pete's sake! I am tired of wearing long underwear to work!

2) It seems to be taking even longer for things to post here. I appreciate the lack of objectionable posts showing up of late -- but I could have "liked" 1/2 statuses on FB or made 3-4 comments in the time it takes for a post to show up here. No wonder folks are abandonning our once breezy, chatty forum for other venues in which to connect!

3) I thought I'd get "out" of doing a funeral this week for a former member, since a local retired clergy person knows the family better. But she'd prefer not to preside or preach. She'll help, which will make the family glad, but it is looking like I get to add a 4th sermon & service to my week. Uff dah!

1) Our average high at this time of year is around 77 degrees. For the past couple of weeks the high has been in the mid to high 80s. Mary, come on down here and complain :P

2) Love holy week, hate that I have to teach at 9pm on Thursday & Friday night, meaning I have to rush home both from church both evenings.

3) Finally got my oil changed, wanted to get my A/C fixed... but it's going to cost around $1200, so I guess we'll just sweat!

The A/C compressor froze up on my wife's van last month too. At least we have another month or two before A/C season starts. So I can wait till my tax refund comes before I have to shell out a grand to fix it.

Some idiot turned on the water in the vacant apartment above mine and let the non-connected sink drip down into my bathroom.

We watched My Fair Lady last night. As the only male in a household with four females, I thought my wife and daughters could have learned much from songs like, "Why Can't a Woman Be More Like A Man?" However, when I pointed out Eliza Doolittle just didn't get it when she got mad at Professor Higgins, all my daughters gave me were glaring looks and threats of violence and bruising. Apparently they didn't get it either. How Loverly. :)

I took a huge load of laundry to my cousin's house today (lots of colored T-shirts and black and blue jeans) so I could take advantage of the fresh air and clotheslines. Little did I know some idiot had washed feather pillows before my load so I'll have to 'pluck' my clothes before I wear them. The dryer, of course, is not working...

When my predecessor remodeled the parsonage 12 years ago, he installed Emco storm doors. Now I'm trying to replace some parts and find them impossible or at least expensive. The brass lockset is falling apart. I have to re-install the interior handle a few times a month. I can buy a generic lockset that fits most doors for $20. But this door has mounting holes an extra half inch apart. So I have to buy an OEM lockset, special order from Home Depot for $80. One of the hinges popped apart when the wind caught the door and whipped it open and a bushing disappeared. You cannot buy just the bushing. The Hinge Rail is $51.

But good news. I just called the 800 number and they are sending me two new locksets (front and back door) and a new hinge rail for free under the lifetime warranty! A few minutes on the phone just saved the church $219 for a new door.

I'm irritated that it's so hot.
