Old Lutheran Rumors

Some of the most interesting pieces of Luther's life come to us from a collection of stories that his students collected that they called Table Talk. In the collection, we find Luther talking about his views on theology, marriage, the pope and just about everything else in his life. Please take this chance to express your views about life, but please, try to keep the Luther-like vulgarity to a minimum.

Cause we've seriously discussed doing that in a bar once. Actually some members of our church own a fairly nice one in Downtown LaPorte, so we talked about going to that one.

Yes, I would regard a meeting of youth team leaders as a "church function". However my objection wasn't to having an adult beverage at a restarurant, but to serving alcohol at the the church itself.

(I forgot to say in our menue above that there were also mashed potatoes.)

Katie's beer won awards -- I am guessing this meant it not only tasted good, but packed a punch.

A cautionary word about "non-alcoholic" beer (besides the fact it tastes like crud) It isn't totally alcohol free -- 1/2 % or something like that. Check the lable. While that might not seem like much, for some folks who have an alcohol problem, that could be enough, when coupled with the fact that the taste alone will bring back certain memories, to trigger what my friends call a "relapse."

I am not saying don't serve it -- but just keep that in mind if you do. And really, our Oktoberfests were fun and successful and nobody seemed to miss real beer or seem upset that we didn't even have pretend beer.

So, LM, regrettable tho it might be -- go to the church Oktoberfest for bratwurst & fellowship -- and go out afterward for "dessert!" For the sake of the brethren...you can do it!

I could always host a Lutheran Kegger at my house after the Oktoberfest.
Of course, that would require cleaning the house. :?

Who cleans the house BEFORE a Kegger? Dim the lights, no one will know the difference. Especially after a bit of brew. Just make sure your guests "drink responsibly" and either designate a driver or offer pillows & blankets for those who over -do.

Is Lutherman hosting a kegger? That would almost be worth the short drive south on I-29!

There is a segment in truth to that, considering North Dakota is much nicer!

OL rumor: ValS might not be able to afford to get the Reformation party kit this year after spending so much money on fun new classroom supplies---unless the Ref. party kit comes out real soon and is particularly fine.

Hey--I have only four students so far. God only knows how long I'll have a job. But that's drift and there's no place for that in this forum.

I heard a rumor that OL is going to start selling the "what does this mean" shirt in a color that won't make me look like I have jaundice. And they will redesign it so the lighter colored square around the words isn't there anymore.
