Meet Catherine (Llewellyn)
Broman, pictured here with her daughter, Marsha.
Catherine is my grandmother and she is also a devoted Lutheran!
She was born on February 3, 1915, grew up in Pittsburgh, PA (the
McKeesport and Port Vue area to be exact) and was an active
member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in McKeesport, PA along
with my grandfather, Elmer Broman (who is now deceased). My
grandfather worked for the steel industry and was transferred to
Elyria, OH in 1969; they have lived there ever since. After
relocating, both Catherine and Elmer became members of Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Elyria shortly after it was formed, and just
missed being charter members of that congregation. My
grandmother is still a very active member there to this day.
She has sung in the choir, played the organ, helped with the
newsletter, is active in WELCA, and no doubt made many, many of
the requisite Lutheran Jell-O salads! Catherine was honored
recently by Redeemer as one of its oldest and almost founding
members. As her first grandchild, I am proud to carry on the
Lutheran heritage that she began - as an active member of First
Lutheran Church, Pittsburgh, PA.
